I’ve had the car on eBay for the past week, with a Buy It Now auction format, and accepting offers. My BIN was $7000, and I was automatically rejecting any offer under $5000. Until today, my only real interest was a guy in Florida who was heavy on questions but not really understanding my answers.

See, the car needs a voltage regulator and a fuel tank changeover valve, and I have both the parts. But that guy offered me $2000 because he thought he needed to replace the fuel tanks...even when I told him it didn’t need tanks, he still didn’t really get it. Plus, he was trying to drive it back to Florida, which I wasn’t comfortable with.

In the end, the car sold for $5000 to a guy in Massachusetts. I thought about trying to get $5500 out of it, but it wasn’t worth it to me to lose the offer I had...and this way, I know he’ll be able to register the car with the paperwork I have.

So it’s kind of the end of an era. I feel bad about selling it because it’s a car I’ll never be able to get back, but it was also a bit more upkeep than I like in a hobby car.

I figure with the money it brings in, probably half of it will be going to baby-related stuff. A few dollars of it will go to the wife, so she can buy herself something nice. About $1000 of it will go to paint the P71, and hopefully I’ll have about $1000 left to buy a cheap Fox body Mustang.

It’s weird. This time last year, I had two classic cars (Jag and Corvair) and it was seeming like a pretty good time. Now I’ve got a baby on the way and no classic cars. Ah well...on the upside however, we did find out the gender of the baby. I’m gonna have a son. Which is pretty badass.

I’m trying to convince the wife to name him after a Formula 1 World Champion. 100 Oppo Points to whoever guesses the correct one first.

I adore Nelson Piquet, but I’m not quite Portuguese enough (I know he’s Brazillian) to name the kid Nelson. Though the wife is a big Simpsons fan, so maybe we could sneak it in that way.

It is not Michael (no Michaels in either of our families, which is odd), but the name does belong to a multiple time World Champion.

Honestly, somewhere between $5000-6000 is what it’s worth in the condition it is. Yeah, maybe I could sit on the thing for another couple months and grab a couple hundred more dollars, but I needed it gone soon more than I needed it gone at a higher price.

The Florida guy was odd. I mean really nice guy and all, but he offered me $2000 to begin with and had worked all the way up to $4400 or so, increasing his offer by a few hundred dollars at a time. Plus, what I really want is somebody to show up here with cash and a trailer, load it up, and let me be done with it...that guy would have been nothing but problems.

Nailed it. The worst part is that I had her convinced, but then her uncle went and got divorced, got remarried, had a kid, and named it Sebastian. But that kid lives 3000 miles from me, so I don’t care what the hell that kid is called.
